If you ever consider strolling up Bluff Knoll before sunrise to catch the cloud waterfall in the morning dew, or challenge yourself with a scrambling climb to the peak of Toolbrunup for a stunning vista, here is your chance. Alternatively, the summit of Mt Hassell offers a spectacular view of Mt Toolbrunup a few kilometre to the west.

This year, we will stay at Stirling Range Retreat. Please arrange the accommodation yourself and book early to avoid disappointment. It is a long weekend, so book early to avoid disappointment. Mention the WA Family Bushwalking Club and they will try and put us together.

Thereafter, register with wafbc.org.au (here) so we know who is going. I also welcome other family to organise group activity if you have any anything you wish to share with the group. Stirling Range Retreat offers a range of accommodation so 'cabin stay' options are available if you wish to Glam-It. 

Depending on interest, we may drive to Porongurup National Park (60km one way from Stirling Range Retreat) to explore Devil Slide, a 5km Return Class 4 Walk.

Entry into Bluff Knoll and Porongurup Range requires National Park Pass, currently $15 per vehicle per day per visit. 

Stirling Range National Park has the only major mountain range within the southern half of Western Australia. The rugged peaks, which rise to more than 1000m above sea level, feature stark cliff faces, sheltered gullies, magnificent views and a rich diversity of unique and colourful wildflowers. The park is one of the world’s most important areas for flora with 1500 species, many of which grow nowhere else, packed within its boundaries.

Porongurup Range is a fascinating place for picnicking and bush rambles. It is a place of incredible biodiversity, with 750 native plant species in an area of just 2600 hectares. With an elevation of 670m Devils Slide is the Porongurup Range's highest peak. It provides magnificent views over the granite domes of the Porongurup Ranges. Known for its high flora species diversity, the ranges are home to over 700 plant species, including 10 endemic species. You may even be lucky to spot one of the many mammal or bird species, honey possums, brushtail wallabies and even rare bird species of Baudin's cockatoo and noisy scrub-birds. The Granite Skywalk is a suspended walkway on the huge granite outcrop of Castle Rock. The two kilometre walk up from the Castle Rock picnic area passes through jarrah, marri and karri forest and by Balancing Rock to reach the base of Castle Rock and the lower lookout. Reaching the upper lookout requires scrambling through and over rocks and climbing a 6 metre ladder.
