Coogee Maritime Trail The trails not only provide access to our beautiful marine life, but also offer a unique opportunity to educate and build awareness about out significant maritime history and archaeology. Located only 25 metres from the shore, the dive and snorkel trail begin at the Omeo shipwreck and includes: Underwater access to the Omeo shipwreck Underwater art gallery Artificial reef. The underwater trail begins in shallow water while its western-most extent reaches a maximum depth of 7 metres. Most of the trail is around 2.5 to 5 metres deep, making it suitable for snorkelers and novice divers.  New to snorkeling, or never been to the Coogee Maritime Trail before? Try these simple tips for a good time! Before you come: Check the conditions – including weather, wind and currents as these can impact your experience Take a flotation device – pool noodles, bodyboards and kickboards can help you stay afloat and avoid accidentally resting on the wreck There is limited parking so make sure you carpool, walk, or ride a bike Have a plan for your valuables.  When you arrive:  Enter via stairs or along the beach  Meet at stairs. Each parent needs to supervised their own children while snorkeling and swimming in water and bring a flotation devices, if required.   For more information click on link below. Torbay Beach Camp 2024 (Members Only)
 Torbay Beach Camp at Camp Kennedy is the Club's premier annual event on the south coast west of Albany, https://campkennedy.org!
 It is an absolute beachfront holiday. Past activities at the camp have included Talent Show evening, walks, swimming, canoeing, boogie boarding, fishing, coffee drinking at local cafe, etc. As in previous years, the site is deemed alcohol and smoking free.
 Families stay in separate 'hut'. The huts have a bed base and mattress but little else – they are really basic. You will have the use of the shared outdoor kitchen/BBQ area, dish washing area with running water, fridge and freezers and the ablution blocks. There is also a fee-paying washing machine and clothes line for laundry. The dining hall has tables and benches. You will need to provide your own cooking pots and serving plates and utensils.
 For 2024, the indicative prices are:     •    Dorms is $20/n for Adult and $15/n for Children.
     •    Camping at unpowered site is $14/n for Adult and $12/n for Children.
     •    Powered site is $17/n for Adult and $14/n for Children. There are only two sites.
     •    Please book directly with Camp Kennedy: Admin@campkennedy.org
     •    Then register your intention here with WAFBC so we know who is going.
     •    Please pay when you arrive at Torbay to the Camp Manager. Unsure if EFTPOS is availble. ***Interested families needs to book directly with the Camp Manager. please book early to avoid disappointment! *** The accommodation will be given on a first come first serve basis. Unlike previous years, we no longer have exclusive use of the entire camp ground. Check-in time is 3.00pm and check-out time is 11.00am.
Each family may be given a cleaning rooster for cleaning bathroom, dining hall etc.

 What to bring/Expect: Bedding: Sheets, Pillows, Quilts or Sleeping bags.
 Cooking utensil, Serving plates, Cutlery and cooking utensils.
 Tea Towels (Bring a few) - You are expected to clean your dishes.
 Camping chair, if you want to sit in front of your dorm/hut.
 Games to play (there is also small sand pit playground for kid).
 Books to read.
 Food.
 Each family is encouraged to participate in the Talent Show concert night, usually on the last night of the camp.  Activity-based gear e.g. hiking, swimming, fishing etc.
 Each family is encouraged to host a group based activity, such as going to the beach or coffee at Cozy Corner.
 Please write your actvity on the whiteboard on arrival. I will organise an Overnight hike to a Bibulmum shelter and return the next morning, if there are interest.

Christmas Picnic at Matilda Bay, Crawley. All Welcome Near the 2 jetties and next to the Bayside Kitchen. All are welcome to join us for a picnic by the Maltida Bay/Swan River with a possible visit by Father Christmas (To be confirmed). The kids can play, swim, canoe/kayak or sail if they wish, while the adults relax and chat on the beach or maybe a game of frisbee. You can arrive by bike if you wish. It will be in the afternoon this year but always a pleasant way to spend the best part of a day under the shade of the peppermints. There is a cafe nearby for those wanting a coffee or ice cream. Also, please bring something approximately $5-10 (eg, lolly stockings or wrapped gift. Labelled with your child's name) for Father Christmas to give to your child. Time: 3pm onwards Venue: Matilda Bay, near Bayside Kitchen Cost: Free, BYO everything. Important information: Parents are responsible for their children. It is about an hour walk, it can be made longer or shorter and has some limestone walk paths. The Camel Lake Trail, located within Bold Park is short loop through coastal bushland boasting spectacular views of both the coastline and city. Multi-day Bibbulmum Hike from Brookton Highway Access point to Albany Highway (Sullivan Rock Car Park) - Members only. Parents only(?). Saturday Afternoon to Sunday Noon. Due to the logistics involved, we are making this an adult (parent) event. Nonetheless, grown children with hiking experience are still welcome to join us. We will be going at a reasoably slow pace, and approximately 32.3km over 1 nights. Abssinia rock, Interesting flora and fauna, Mt Cuthbert, Mt Vincent. View from the hilltop.  Real hiking experience. Camping at Caning and Mondanock Shelters. Drop toilet. Water available at camp - Water ought to be either filtered or treated with chemical/boiling to be safe for drinking. There are wigglies in the water tanks at these sites. Parents (Adults) are responsible for their children at all times. Walk is graded as 'Difficult' due to uneven ground and steep sections. Brookton Highway to Canning Shelter is 8.6km. Canning to Mondanock is 16.3km. Monadnock to Sullivan Rock is 7.4km. Appropriate gear is required for this walk. Please refer 'Members' Only resource page' of the web site for more guidance. The temperature may be low and can be wind chilly. I cannot vouch for the safety of parking overnignt at either terminals of the walk. These are isolated locations on major highway and break-ins has been known to happened to hiker's vehicles.  Members may be refused participation if the safety of the group or the participant is compromised by inappropriate equipment. I have a PLB for emergency use, for the safety of the group. Interested members should familiarise themselves with The Risk Management Policy published on the WAFBC website and ensure the safety of your family at all times. We are going into remote environemnt and medical evacuation is usually hours away. Potential risks (which may lead to life-threatening event) on this walk for adults and children are, (1) Snake bite, (2) Thermal burns at fire-pit or from boiling water (3) Gastro-Intestinal upset from oro-feacal contamination, (4) Musculo-skeletal injuries, (5) Dehydration, (6) Falls, (7) Insect bites, including ticks, (8) Eye injuries from sticks or plants, (9) Getting lost in the wilderness. (10) Exacebation of any existing medical condition, (11) Falling tree and branches - crushing injury, and (12) Cuts and bruises.    Assemble Point: Brookton Highway Access point, 15mins before departure time. It may take 60mins or more to get to the access point from your Perth home. Mobile coverage is unreliable for much of the Bibbulmum Track, so we will not be waiting long if you are late to the assembly point as there is no way of determining if you are coming or not (eg 15min past hike time). We can still meet at Canning Shelter later. Telstra is not available at Brookton Highway & Canning. Available at Monadnock and Sullivan Rock, apparently.  Registration is necessary, this event may be cancelled if there is no registered participants. Registration may be cancelled if storm is anticipated. We will walk if only shower is anticipated. Hiking equipment may include the following (I can provide a equipment list if requested): Suitable attire, sturdy shoes and quick dry clothes. Warm overnight clothes. Water (Minimum 2L per person at departure). Food (Lunch, Dinner, breakfast and snacks) Hiking backpack. Warm sleeping gear  - Sleeping bag and mattress. Tent (The shelter may be busy and space may not be available). Personal Hygiene: Sanitiser and toilet paper. Basic First Aid kit. Insect repellent.  Mobile phone, powerbank, and something light for quiet moments like a book or toys or puzzles. Please keep total pack weight around 10-12kg, including water. Overnight Hike from Perth Hill Discovery Centre to Helena Campsite and return (Members only). Approximately 24km total over 2 days. Amazing vista from the Helena Shelter and Amazing Sunrise. Real hiking experience. Drop toilet. Water available at camp - Water needs to be filtered. Parents are responsible for their children at all times. Walk is graded as 'Difficult' due to narrow and uneven ground. There are short sections with steep terrain. Helena Campsite is 'new' and very comfortable.  Appropriate gear is required for this walk. Please refer Members' Only resource page of the web site for more guidance. The nighttime temperature may be low. Members may be refused participation if the safety of the group or the participant is compromised by inappropriate equipment. I have a PLB for emergency use, for the safety of the group. Assemble Point: Perth Hill Discovery Centre Carpark 15mins before departure time. Mobile coverage is unreliable for much of the Bibbulmum Track, so we will not be waiting long if you are late to the assembly point as there is no way of determining if you are coming or not.  There is no Mobile service at Helena campsite for Optus/Vodafone, weak for Telstra (Unsure about Telstra). PHDC should be a reasonable safe to park your car overnight.  Registration is necessary, this event may be cancelled if there is no registered participants.    Hiking equipment must include these: Suitable attire, sturdy shoes and other personal protection equipment. Water (Minimum 2L per person at departure). Food (Lunch, Dinner, breakfast and snacks) Hiking backpack. Warm sleeping gear  - Sleeping bag and mattress. Tent (The shelter may be busy and space may not be available). Personal Hygiene and toilet paper. Basic First Aid kit. Please keep total pack weight below 10-12kg, including water. Children should not carry more than 10% of their body weight.  There may be option for a day walk, or short overnight walk (eg PHDC to Ball Creek, or PHDC to Mundaring Weir etc) if another family is willing to lead. Quick notice from Peta,  new start point is at Lewis Road and parking is at Lewis Road.  The end of Orange Valley Road is closed for parking, divert to Lewis Road. Please contact Peta by phone is any problems.    This is a reasonably easy 3.5km return walk in the Mundy Regional Park, in the Perth Hills. The trail follows the narrow river as it courses over cascades and small waterfalls, and offer views over the coastal plain to Perth. This is a introductory walk for prospective new members but existing WAFBC members are also welcome to join.  When  16th June 2024 1:30pm Start  Where  Meet at the trailhead, at the end of Orange Valley Road, Lesmurdie  Bring  Shoes, Water  Cost  Members Free    Non-Members: $11 per family, redeemable against 2024 WAFBC membership. Whiteman Park Wunanga Trial 4.3km This is a 4.3km long trail set in a figure-of-eight design to allow walkers an abbreviated version should they be time-limited. It commences adjacent to the Village Junction Railway Station (near car park 2) and winds its way through a number of vegetation types, allowing walkers to experience the amazing diversity that the Park’s woodland has to offer. This includes jarrah, marri and banksia coastal plain bushland. The understorey is alive with flowering shrubs throughout the year, although in the cooler spring months, eagle eyed walkers can enjoy trigger plants and orchids in an array of colours and forms. Wunanga trail map, or pick one up from the Visitor Information Centre or Revolutions Transport Museum (at the start of the trail) in the Village. Point Walter kayak & picnic. Meet on grass area opposite car park at end of Honour Avenue, near jetty, north of cafe. Bring your own watercraft, or arrange a hire at Point Walter. Don't forget about the picnic afterwards. Families participate at own risk. This activity involve watersport so there is risk of drowning, sun exposure and dehydration as well unintended contact with aquatic life (Jelly fish) and other water users (Powered boat).
